🔒 Privacy First Promise: CLYP processes all screenshots locally on your device. Your content never leaves your computer unless you explicitly export it.

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how CLYP ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the CLYP Chrome extension.

By using CLYP, you agree to this policy. If you disagree, please do not use CLYP.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide (Paid Users Only)

Email Address: For license delivery and account management
Payment Information: Processed securely through Stripe (we never see your credit card)
License Key: Unique identifier for your subscription
AI Branding Assets: Company logo image and brand colors you supply for the AI Branding feature (stored locally on your device only — see Section 4a)

2.2 Automatically Collected Information

Usage Statistics: Screenshot count (to enforce free trial limits)
Device Fingerprint: Unique identifier to track trial usage across reinstalls
Technical Data: Browser version, extension version, error logs
Analytics: Feature usage, export format preferences (anonymous)

2.3 Information We DO NOT Collect

We explicitly do NOT collect:

❌ Content of websites you visit
❌ Browsing history
❌ Passwords or form data
❌ Location data
❌ Personal messages

3. How We Use Your Information

Enforce free trial limits (500 screenshots)
Validate subscriptions and prevent sharing
Send license keys and payment receipts
Fix bugs and improve features
Provide customer support
Prevent fraud and abuse

We do NOT: Sell your data, serve ads, or track you across websites.

4. Local Data Storage

All your captures stay on your device. Stored locally:

Screenshots
Settings and preferences
License key (cached)
Usage counters
AI Branding assets (company logo and brand colors, if configured)

You control this data - uninstall CLYP or use "Clear All" to delete everything.

4a. AI Branding Feature

The AI Branding feature (available to paid subscribers) allows you to add your company logo and brand colors to exported PDF tutorials and documents. Here is how your branding data is handled:

Local Storage Only: Your company logo (stored as a base64-encoded image) and brand color values are saved exclusively in Chrome's local storage on your device. They are never uploaded to our servers.
Website Fetching: When you use the optional "Fetch" tool to auto-detect a logo and brand colors from a URL, CLYP makes a one-time request to that website to extract publicly visible assets (meta tags, favicons, CSS colors). The fetched data is stored locally and the URL is not logged or retained by us.
Export Usage: Your branding assets are embedded directly into exported PDF files on your device. The exported files are saved locally via your browser's download dialog and are never transmitted to CLYP.
Deletion: You can remove your branding data at any time by clearing the logo and color fields in Settings, or by uninstalling the extension.

In summary: Your branding assets (logo and colors) never leave your device. They are stored locally, applied locally during export, and are fully under your control.

5. Data Sharing

5.1 Third Parties We Share With:

Stripe: Payment processing - stripe.com/privacy
Vercel: Hosting and API services - vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy

5.2 We DO NOT Share With:

Advertisers or marketing companies
Data brokers
Social media platforms
Analytics companies (beyond anonymous stats)

5.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law (subpoenas, court orders, fraud prevention).

6. Chrome Extension Permissions

CLYP requires these permissions:

activeTab - Capture screenshots of current tab
storage - Save settings and captures locally
downloads - Export files to your Downloads folder
scripting - Enable click detection and hotspots
offscreen - Process exports (PPTX, GIF, ZIP) in background

We do NOT request: history, cookies, bookmarks, geolocation, or access to all websites.

7. Data Security

HTTPS encryption for all transmissions
Secure API endpoints
PCI-compliant payment processing (Stripe)
Local processing (no uploads)
Regular security updates

Data Retention: Account data retained during subscription + 90 days after cancellation. Usage stats retained indefinitely (anonymized).

8. Your Privacy Rights

You have the right to:

9. Children's Privacy

CLYP is not intended for children under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

10. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed in countries outside your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards (standard contractual clauses, encryption).

11. Cookies and Tracking

We do NOT use:

We only use: Chrome's local storage for settings (not accessible by websites).
